The industry standard introductory course, our AIARE (American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education) Level I Avalanche Courses are unique because of our comfy yurt classroom and our emphasis on field based lessons and learning. In this 24 hour curriculum, students can expect to develop a good grounding in how to prepare for and carry out a trip, to understand basic decision making while in the field, and to learn rescue techniques required to find and dig up a buried person.

Save time, energy, and fuel by joining one of our courses. Instead of fighting traffic, enjoy relaxing next to the fire, recovering in the sauna, and sleeping each night in our cozy bunk house.  Includes the full AIARE Level I course, lodging in our Yurt at 4600', snowcat transport, and AIARE curriculum and field book.

Our yurt based Level 1 is a ski and snowboard focused course and we incorporate a significant amount of downhill travel. We hike 800-1500’ per day utilizing skis or splitboard and skins. This uphill travel is key to taking good observations and recognizing avalanche terrain. Additionally we include 4-6 cat runs. We utilize the snowcat to get a few extra runs each day to increase the fun factor and get more experience moving thru avalanche terrain.
